Kenya Enbu Kathakwa Peaberry

Our first Peaberry on offer, we are really pleased with how this one tastes in the light-medium range. The density of the Peaberry almost gives an “umami”-like taste; full of flavors like red grape all the way through each cup. We noticed on initial cupping a spiciness we would compare to allspice or clove mixed with brown sugar. As it cools, it gains tea-like qualities similar to oolong tea while maintaining that primary coffee flavor. If you look really hard, you can find notes of pink grapefruit in the finish. Quite a fun coffee to brew!

(As a quick aside: coffee peaberries form inside the coffee cherry during development, and are the incidence where instead of two seed halves, you only get one single seed. This allows the singular seed to get essentially double the nutrients, and this translates into a more concentrated version of that same coffee. They also make up only 5% of each harvest, making them highly prized in the specialty coffee community.)
