El Salvador - Finca Miravalles Castillo
El Salvador - Finca Miravalles Castillo offers a balanced profile, showcasing bittersweet flavors with nutty and herbal notes. At a light roast, it features malty-sweet nuances of molasses bread, cocoa, and walnut. Medium to dark roasts reveal a chocolate-forward essence, making it suitable for espresso with rich, creamy qualities.
The 120-manzana Finca Miravalles is a family-run estate owned by husband and wife Luis Duarte and Tete Chacón, with day-to-day management largely overseen by their son, Luis Jr. Located in Apaneca, Ahuachapán, near the Santa Ana volcano, the property traces its lineage to two neighboring family farms: Miravalles from Tete’s family and Santa María from Luis’s, with roughly 150 years of shared agricultural heritage. After their marriage, the couple acquired the then-neglected Miravalles parcel and unified it with Santa María under the Miravalles name.
Since then, the family has undertaken a long-term restoration of the estate, preserving original Bourbon and Pacas plantings alongside several additional cultivars. The farm is meticulously organized into separate plots by variety, and harvesting and processing are conducted with equal precision to maintain lot integrity. Finca Miravalles sits along the lush slopes of the Apaneca-Ilamatepec mountain range at elevations of approximately 1,250 to 1,550 meters above sea level.
